A Sad Day for Comedy

“I think it is the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately,” George Carlin once said.

And cross it he did, many, many times in his long career in comedy.

The comedic legend who passed away on Sunday at the age of 71 was a pioneer in his brand of comedy — a trail blazer for those who followed in his footsteps.

We at Ms. Informed struggled to come up with words fitting enough to give proper tribute to Mr. Carlin, but Ben Stiller put it best in a statement released today:

“[George Carlin was] a hugely influential force in stand-up comedy. He had an amazing mind, and his humor was brave, and always challenging us to look at ourselves and question our belief systems, while being incredibly entertaining. He was one of the greats.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
