Miller Bright?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Thanks to Emily for the clarification.
I didn’t see the commercials either, although I admittedly tappered off from the game after the first quarter.

Either Miller Light is incredibly dumb…or incredibly brilliant. The beer distributor bought 30 seconds of airtime for Sunday’s XLIII superbowl, but there’s a catch: They bought 30 one-second intervals of time. Tune in Sunday to see how these spots pan out.

My favorite part is 1 minute and 58 seconds.

Twins for Brangelina

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Not babies, Oscars. Brad Pitt’s “Benjamin Button” walked away with 13 nominations — including best picture. But Button’s leading man was not the only one in the Pitt-Jolie household to grab a nomination. Angelina received a nomination for Best Actress for her role in “Changeling.” Will it be another set of twins for Brangelina?

And on the one-year anniversary of his tragic death, while family and friends were mourning his death, the Academy was honoring his career as actor Heath Ledger received an Oscar nomination for his last role as the Joker in “Dark Knight.” Other nominees in the best supporting actor category included Josh Brolin for “Milk,” Robert Downey Jr. for “Tropic Thunder,” Philip Seymour Hoffman for “Doubt” and Michael Shannon for “Revolutionary Road.” Ledger fans say even if he does not win the Oscar posthumously, a tribute to the actors life would be appreciated.

Gay Marriage in CT

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

While one C state on the West coast banned it last week, another on the East coast made it legal today. Connecticut state courts ruled a gay marriage ban to be unconstitutional last month and began officiating same-sex marriages today. California’s ruling on Prop 8 may have set the gay rights movement back, but this news coming out of Connecticut gives all of us equal-rights activists hope.

Perhaps my favorite sign of protest:

This is an excerpt from what Roger Ebert had to say:

It could not have been anticipated by Palin. The next camera angle was above and behind her. She paused. The silence seemed to anticipate words of sympathy and identification from her. But Biden had ended in a sentence using the word “change,” and her response, reflecting no emotion at all, cued off that word and became a talking point about McCain. This felt to me, at worst, insensitive and callous. At best, that she had not fully heard Biden. In either event, her response troubled me. If a man had responded in that way to such a statement from a women, he would be called a heartless brute

A Sad Day for Comedy

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

“I think it is the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately,” George Carlin once said.

And cross it he did, many, many times in his long career in comedy.

The comedic legend who passed away on Sunday at the age of 71 was a pioneer in his brand of comedy — a trail blazer for those who followed in his footsteps.

We at Ms. Informed struggled to come up with words fitting enough to give proper tribute to Mr. Carlin, but Ben Stiller put it best in a statement released today:

“[George Carlin was] a hugely influential force in stand-up comedy. He had an amazing mind, and his humor was brave, and always challenging us to look at ourselves and question our belief systems, while being incredibly entertaining. He was one of the greats.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
