Fairytales Get a Makeover

Forget the flowers and the brunch. This mother’s day there will be something new for children to share with their moms. Thanks to Dr. Michael Salzhauer, a plastic surgeon in Florida, a children’s story explaining plastic surgery to kids will be released on May 11. The tale deals with an issue with many of his patients struggle.

The story, titled “My Beautiful Mommy,” is about a mother explaning to her daughter that she is having her tummy tucked and getting a nose job. The surgeon steared clear, however, of the topic of breast augmentation.

And people say Barbie is a bad influence on young girls? This book almost makes me want to read Snoop’s series. Almost.

What’s next, a tale about daddy’s vasectomy?

She’s Not Gonna Write You
a Love Song…

Friday, April 18th, 2008

…but she will write you a hit song, if you are Epic Records. Sara Bareilles’ hit “Love Song” is, to paraphrase her lyrics, not what I thought it was. The song is not about a relationship, an ex-boyfriend or anything even close to that. It’s about her record label, Epic Records, who wanted her to…write them a love song. A marketable smash hit.

Her response?

Alba’s Baby Bracelets

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Jessica Alba, who is expecting her first child with fiance Cash Warren, had her baby shower last week. She gave each guest a bracelet that said “Life, Love, Health, Et Cetera,” made them say prayers and insisted no one take the bracelet off until the baby is born. (Hope they weren’t ugly.) Apparently the ritual will help to ensure that the baby is healthy.

The baby, due next month, will be named “Honor,” as Alba says it is an honor to be having Warren’s baby. Not the best of names, but beats the hell out of Apple Paltrow. Still can’t get over that one.

Shower guests included Kim Kardashian and Rashida Jones (ya know…the girl from The Office who now has her own horrible show on Fox?)

At least until July 31. The temporary restraining order place on Osama (Sam) Lutfi was extended until then when another hearing will be held to address Spears’ conservatorship. Brit’s dad Jamie is still in control of his daughter’s estate.

Simply the Best.

While I was reading one of my favorite blogs on the internet today, I was informed of all the elitist talk that is flying around about Obama by many news outlets. (Ok, manly Fox News, but there were some others in there, too.)

Hilary calls Obama an elitist and suddenly that is the new buzzword in this presidential campaign. But, as Jon Stewart points out (and Emily posts about), WHAT is so wrong with being an elitist?

Is it the -ist that is throwing people off?

Racist, facist, sexist.

But this -ist is actually, dear readers, a GOOD THING.

Elite is defined as “the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.”

Now I ask you, intelligent, well-informed, faithful reader, why shouldn’t our president (and anyone even considering running for the once highly honored and respected office for that matter) NOT be the best?

I think America has had enough of non-elitist presidents. (Something in the ballpark of 8 years of it, in fact.) Isn’t it time we raised our standards and demanded the best?

Even Jon Stewart agrees:

God Bless the Future of America…

Just when you think the world can’t possibly get any worse…

snoopdogg.jpg

Snoop Dogg announces he is going to pen a series of “urban themed” children’s books. The series will be illustrated by Snoop’s cousin, Joe Cool. The series, called “Where’s the Cheese?”, will follow Lil’ Mouse in her quest to…find the cheese.

Perhaps the bigger story here is not that is he writing children’s books, but that he can write, period. I’m sorry, but this man makes Flava Flav look like a class act.

Rest in Peace

Thoughts and prayers go out to Cameron Diaz and her family, as her father unexpectedly passed away yesterday morning. He was 58. According to TMZ, Diaz had the flu, which progressed into pneumonia.
